It is LGBTQ+ Center Lake County's mission to make Lake County a place for LGBTQ+ folx to thrive. One of the many ways The Center does this is by providing trained facilitators to help strengthen your organizations' competencies and knowledge about the LGBTQ+ community. There are currently two core training modules, and we can also customize trainings for your specific organization and areas of interest:
LGBTQ+ 101:
Help strengthen your organizations' competencies and knowledge about the LGBTQ+ community. This training is intended to be a judgment free, trauma-informed, and supportive space. topics covered include: “The alphabet mafia” (i.e.: what on earth do all those letters mean?), Dos and Don’ts, issues and myths facing each portion of the community, terminology, key vocabulary, and pronouns.
LGBTQ+ Allyship, Q&A:
Take a deeper dive into LGBTQ+ concepts with exercises focused on privilege, and how to use that privilege to be an effective advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. This session will also provide a no-holds-barred opportunity for anonymous Q&A, allowing you to ask anything you’ve ever wanted to know about the LGBTQ+ experience in a “brave space.”
Generally, these trainings last 1.5-2 hours and are most productive with 1 facilitator per 20 people. These trainings are ideal for law enforcement agencies, court personnel, rape crisis workers, domestic violence organizations, government agencies, hospitals, mental health providers, schools and community centers - any group or organization interested in issues of discrimination, safety and advocacy.
This service is fee based:
Training materials: We will NOT provide hard copies of training materials, however we will provide PDF electronic versions for your use after the workshop. We will send materials electronically and ask your organization to be responsible for all printing and distribution of materials to attendees. We ask that you protect the integrity of our work and materials by NOT sharing them with others who do not attend training events we facilitate. To be considered for a reduced rate please email us!
